Jubilee Cheesecake - Still need to practice that Union Jack

Nächstes Wochenende ist Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee. Schon jetzt beginnt man, Strassen und Häuser zu schmücken, mit Union Jack versteht sich. Aus diesem Anlass habe ich mich an einem neuen Cheesecake Rezept versucht, ich nenne ihn Jubilee Cheesecake.

Boden:
200g Digestive Biscuits
100g Butter

Füllung:
250g Mascarpone
250g Quark
150g Fromage Frais
150g Zucker
100g Double Cream
Vanille
350g Himbeeren
225g Blaubeeren
Etwas Zitronensaft
7 Blatt Gelatine

Herstellung ist grundsätzlich wie für den Mango-Passionfruit Cheesecake (siehe Eintrag September 2010), wobei halt andere Früchte zum Einsatz kommen. Eine handvoll Blaubeeren wird mit in die Quarkmasse gerührt, der Rest wird püriert. 100g Zucker in die Quarkmasse, 50g auf die Fruchtpürees verteilen. Himbeeren werden getrennt pürriert und der Zitronensaft dazu gegeben. Fruchtpürees auf 60 Grad erhitzen, 4 Blatt Gelatine in die Himbeeren, 3 Blatt in die Blaubeeren. Das meiste der Pürees in die Quarkmasse rühren, dann die Quarkmasse auf den Keksboden giessen. Den Rest der Pürees zur Verzierung auf den fertigen Kuchen giessen.

Given it is the Queen's  Diamond Jubilee next weekend and Britain is starting to get ready with decorations, I felt inspired to make a Jubilee Cheesecake.


Base:
200g digestive biscuits
100g butter


Filling:
250g Mascarpone
250g quark
150g fromage frais
150g sugar
100g double cream
Vanille
350g raspberries
225g blue berries
juice of half a lemon
7 leaves gelatine


The procedure is principally as for the mango-passion fruit cheese cake (see September 2010), just using different fruits. Chuck a handful of blue berries into the filling, blitz the rest, also blitz the raspberries. Add 100g of sugar to the mix of mascarpone, quark, fromage frais, vanilla and double cream, split the remaining 50g of sugar between the fruit purees, which are heated to approx 60 degrees C, before adding 4 leaves of gelatine to the raspberry puree and 3 to the blue berry puree. Mix most of the puree into the mix for the filling and pour the filling onto the base made of crumbled cookies and butter. Use remaining purees and attempt to make Union Jack. Picture above shows that I still need a bit of practice, but this was dribbled on, perhaps using a piping bag might be useful. 

Wenn der Vater mit dem Sohne — Wills and Dad on the road

Seit wir nach Weihnachten wieder angefangen haben zu arbeiten, hat es eigentlich so recht keine Pause gegeben. Selbst Ostern oder die langen Bank-Holiday Wochenenden waren nicht so recht arbeitsfrei. Daher beschloss ich Anfang Mai, einfach 'spontan' mit Mücki nach Bremen zu fliegen, um die Familie zu besuchen. Obwohl das ganze relative kurzfristig organisiert wurde, hatte Mücki noch ausreichend Wartezeit, in der er stets ungeduldiger wurde und den Trip nicht abwarten konnte. In Bremen haben wir alle Grosseltern besucht, Frauke und Anton kamen auch, und zusammen sind wir dann zu Antje gefahren, um Geburtstag zu feiern.

Cousins beim Matschepatschen - Muddy cousins

Das Wochenende war action-packed mit Gartenarbeit, Fussball und Croquet spielen, im Matsch spielen, die grosse Hündin Ronja streicheln, Schafe angucken, Unimog 'fahren', und am allerbesten, mit Wieland auf dem kleinen roten Traktor durchs Moor zu fahren. Mit dem Flugzeug zu fliegen und alles mögliche auf dem Flughafen zu beobachten waren weitere Highlights, und seitdem wir zurück sind vergeht beinahe kein Tag an dem Mücki nicht fragt, wann wir denn wieder mit dem Flugzeug fliegen. Während wir uns so vergnügt haben, hat Thea zuhause die Ruhe genossen.

Unimog action

We have gone pretty much without a break since going back to work after Christmas, and even the long bank holiday weekends have usually been spoiled by some work duties. So, I decided it was time to have a little getaway and booked flights for Willem and me to visit family in Bremen. Although a fairly spontaneous plan, Willem still had a few days to go until the exciting trip was finally starting and we drove to Stansted to catch a plane home. Back in Bremen we saw all the grandparents, Frauke and Anton came along and then we all went to visit Antje for her birthday. The three days were packed with action galore, including a bit of gardening (admittedly mostly Frauke's effort, but we did minor works...), playing football and croquet, playing in the mud, meeting Ronja the big dog and a couple of sheep, pretend-driving a Unimog, and best of all riding on the little red tractor with Wieland. Flighing of course was also great and since we have been back, I have been asked countless times when we'll be going by plane again. While we had a splendid time, Thea enjoyed having the house all to herself and relaxed.
