It is as it always has been. Working life is a continuous string of deadlines that require submission of this that and the other. Naturally, with the holidays getting closer, things are getting even more hectic as one tries to tick off as many of the items that have been on that to-do list for an increasingly long time. One major piece of work has just been completed; I have written a project proposal with colleagues from Warwick and East Anglia, which had to be, and was, submitted in time on Wednesday of this week. I must admit that I was close to giving up on that proposal, but a little motivational help came just in time: a BBSRC proposal that I submitted in Jannuary has been funded. Hurrraayy! Not only am I absolutely delighted as this will allow to continue a particularly exciting line of research, but it also means that my coworker Natalia will be able to continue this work. Without this grant she might have been out of a job in September. Pheew, that was close...
Besides work, wedding preps require time and attention. I was getting a bit anxious since, until a week ago, I had not got a suit for the wedding. A few weeks ago I had a quick screen of the offerings in Leamington on a Saturday, to return on Sunday and settle for the best one. Not only were the suits rather bland and boring, I also became ill overnight and the whole wedding suit project was stalled. Finally, I found my dream suit last weekend, I am very excited and cannot wait to put it on - I absolutely love it!
I am not going to show you a photo of my suit before the wedding, neither would I expect you to find an excerpt of that successful grant application entertaining, and there is no photo of the creative chaos that characterised my office until Wednesday. So I thought yet another photo of the little man would be in order. It fits suprisingly well into the work theme of this post, since seeing the little fella when coming home in the evenings instantly let's me forget and ignore all the work stuff that bothers me. When I put him to bed tonight, I gave him his cuddly bunny "Harry", which he immediately clutched in his arms before rolling onto his side and dozing off contentedly.
